the Teacher Finds You
August 12, 2026
For a long time, I thought wisdom came from finding the right teacher. The older I get, the more I wonder if it comes from becoming a better student.
I think one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves is learning how to observe who we are.
Consciousness isn't something we talk about enough. The more I pay attention to myself, the more meaningful life becomes. Not because I have everything figured out, but because I'm learning to observe myself without immediately trying to fix or judge what I find.
I see my life as a sort of experiment, noticing patterns and reactions that come up often. Some of these bring peace, while others create feelings of grief, fear, or anxiety. There are so many factors affecting the nervous systems that we're not even aware of, and those things quietly influence our mood, our relationships, and our overall health.
I will forever be a student of my own nervous system.
That's one of the reasons I continue to come back to my yoga practice. Movement, breath, and stillness help me understand myself in ways that thinking never could. They give me the space to listen instead of react.
What if the discomfort we are trying so hard to get rid of is actually trying to teach us something?
I want people to know they aren't alone in trying to figure themselves out. I think we're all walking around carrying things we don't fully understand, and sometimes we're simply doing the best we can with the awareness we have in that moment.
Viewing yourself as a student isn’t always easy. It can bring up grief, shame, guilt, or disappointment, and sometimes we don’t like what we see. But when we can meet it all with a little more curiosity and less judgment, something in us slowly begins to shift.
I've realized I can't observe myself and judge myself at the same time. If I'm truly learning, then I have to leave room for compassion. Otherwise, I'm not really observing. I'm just criticizing.
Being human is hard. It asks a lot of us. I think that deserves respect.
I've come to believe that the teacher in us doesn't appear because we know all the answers. The teacher appears because we're willing to keep learning. Every experience, every mistake, every challenge becomes another opportunity to understand ourselves a little more deeply.
I'll always be a student first.
And I think that's exactly how the teacher finds us.
The Vision of Heartspace
August 3, 2026
One thing I’ve noticed on my own yoga journey is just how exposed the practice can feel.
Yoga asks us to show up in a way that can feel raw, honest, and deeply real. It asks us to be present with ourselves: our bodies, our thoughts, our emotions, our habits. Sometimes that can feel incredibly uncomfortable. There’s nowhere to hide in a practice like that.
I think many of us spend a lot of time trying to avoid that feeling. We don’t want to look weak. We don’t want to feel incapable. We don’t want to be the person in the room who can’t do what everyone else is doing. The way yoga has become mainstream can make that feel even louder.
At times it can feel like there’s an expectation to look a certain way, dress a certain way, move a certain way, or somehow already know what you’re doing because everyone else seems to. And because society loves rules and structure, we start believing there must be a “right” way to practice.
But what I’ve noticed over the years through visiting studios, practicing in sanghas, spending time in temples, and sharing space with so many different people, is that one of the most meaningful things we can offer one another is structure without expectation.
A container that feels supportive, but not rigid.
A place where guidance exists, but pressure doesn’t.
How many times have we heard:
“I’m not flexible enough.”
“I can’t do what you do.”
“I can’t sit still that long.”
And every time I hear that, I think: Isn’t that a beautiful reason to begin?
Wouldn’t it be amazing to practice concentration? To learn how to soften? To build strength? To become more present?
Growth doesn’t happen because we’ve already mastered something. It happens because we are willing to meet ourselves exactly where we are. That looks different for every single person. Yoga is deeply personal.
Sometimes we practice beside people who feel like they’re on the same page as us. Sometimes we practice next to people who are in a completely different place in their journey. And that is truly beautiful, too.
I’ve found that the people practicing beside us often become our teachers. We are all students and teachers to one another. That’s where healing begins.
Heartspace was created with that in mind as:
A place to collaborate, collect, gather, and simply be.
A space where you are allowed to arrive exactly as you are in the stage of life you’re in.
A place where judgment softens and acceptance deepens.
A place with conviction to keep growing.
A place where choosing yourself can inspire someone else to choose themselves too.
A place where we can hold one another through the hardest seasons of life and celebrate together in the beautiful ones.
Heartspace isn’t about perfection.
It’s about presence,
It’s about healing together,
And it’s creating a community where being human is welcome here.
Always,
Jes
A Space to come home to
July 28, 2026
Heartspace Wellness & Yoga’s grand opening and ribbon cutting marked more than the opening of a studio. It was the beginning of a space built for honesty, connection, wellness, and the freedom to simply be yourself.
On April 30, 2026, we officially opened the doors to Heartspace Wellness & Yoga and celebrated with our Windsor community. Standing outside the studio for the ribbon cutting, I found myself wondering how I could possibly express the gratitude I felt for everyone who helped bring this vision to life.
The truth is, I’m not sure words can fully capture it.
What I can promise—to myself, to the people who helped build Heartspace, and to everyone who walks through its doors—is love, support, honesty, and meaningful connection. Because when everything else is stripped away, meaningful connection is what life is truly about.
I would not be here without my husband, Mark. He has been my biggest supporter and a steady foundation throughout the process of bringing this dream to life. He held this vision with me long before it became something we could physically step inside. Thank you, Mark. I appreciate you more deeply than words can say.
To my close friends and family who believed in the vision—and believed in me—thank you. You showed up for the late nights, the physical work, the behind-the-scenes effort, and all of the unglamorous pieces that made this possible. Your love and support are woven into this space.
To the teachers who were willing to begin this journey with me at such an early stage: it means the world to me that you showed up with open hearts. It is important that we hold space for others in a way that is real, compassionate, and deeply human. I see those qualities in each of you, and I am so grateful you are here. I promise to care for you as you help care for this community.
And to Windsor: this town is truly special. We have already felt so welcomed here, and we are excited to continue building relationships with neighboring businesses and bringing more opportunities for wellness into the community. I am grateful to be part of this little downtown, to share this space with you, and hopefully, to watch it become part of your lives too.
Heartspace will continue to grow through the energy, presence, and unique gifts of everyone who enters it. The more time you spend here, the more the space becomes yours.
My hope is that it begins to feel like a place you can always return to—a place where you can breathe, move, connect, and come home to yourself.
So, what is the vision for Heartspace?
The vision is to create a space where we can explore both the strongest and most vulnerable parts of ourselves alongside one another. A space where we do not have to perform, pretend, or arrive as anything other than who we truly are.
Because what could be more meaningful than having the freedom to simply be yourself?
Welcome to Heartspace.
